about the Gallery

Portage Hill Gallery was first opened in 1982 as a venue to showcase the artwork of Audrey Kay Dowling and many of the fine artists from the Chautauqua region. Since its humble beginnings in the parlor of her 1830s Greek Revival home, the gallery has grown to represent the regional and national work of over 200 artists in three rooms of the house, including a dedicated gallery space added in 1995.
As a value-added service to customers, Donald Dowling, a graduate of the Larson-Juhl framing school, added archival framing services to the gallery in 2001. Donald works with clients to ensure that they are receiving the custom-framing perfect for their chosen artwork, personal treasures, or documents. Donald’s framing services are always prompt and courteous. Although featuring Larson-Juhl frames and mats, the Gallery also has other choices and Plak mounting is also available.
The Portage Hill Gallery ships purchases both nationally and overseas. Donald will also personally deliver and install your purchase of artwork. And the Gallery offers free local delivery for those traveling by foot, bicycle, or motorcycle!
Another additional service offered by the gallery is private art lessons. Please contact Audrey for details.
Please come and visit our historic Chautauqua County Greek Revival house and discover a hidden treasure filled with top quality juried art created by regionally and nationally known artists in all media, including paintings, sculpture, quilted wall pieces, ceramics, glass, jewelry, wooden work, and photography.
