Audrey Dowling started the Portage Hill Gallery in 1982 as
a venue to showcase her work and the work of the many fine craftspeople
in Chautauqua County. Since that time, the gallery has blossomed
into the premiere location in Chautauqua County to find the
work of local and regional artisans.
Audrey's work has taken many forms over the years, with emphasis
on fabric arts and ceramics. She has also done numerous paintings,
drawings, and pastels. Her current work is largely ceramic,
and ranges from the small and functional, to large mosiacs and
freestanding multipiece totemic sculptures. All of her designs
are original and copyrighted.
In addition to being a professional artist and owning the gallery,
Audrey has raised two sons. Audrey is a career teacher who has
taught art to all ages from pre-schooler to senior citizens.
She is a specialist and consultant in the education of gifted
children.
